US may extend social distancing guidelines, Trump says

During a White House press briefing, the United States President Donald Trump said that he may extend national social distancing guidelines until early in the summer or later.

“I think people are going to know. You're going to know. I'm going to know. I think people are going to know just out of common sense. At some point we won't have to do that. But until we feel it's safe we're going to be extending,” Trump said.

On March 16, Trump announced “15 Days to Slow the Spread”—a series of guidelines based on CDC recommendations on topics such as physical distancing, self-isolation, and protecting those at high risk. The government also recommended closing schools and avoiding gatherings of more than ten people.

The federal guidelines, which had already been extended once, were set to expire at the end of April.

The United States, the current epicenter of coronavirus pandemic, has so far reported more than 886,709 confirmed cases, with 50,243 deaths.
