We will start Kanal Istanbul project soon: Erdoğan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that tenders would be invited for the Canal Istanbul in the coming weeks and construction work would begin as soon as possible.

Speaking at at the Service Exporters Meeting at Istanbul Congress Center, Erdoğan said: "We are firmly committed to our goal of increasing our exports to $ 500 billion. Now, we say 'we will make Canal Istanbul', the head of the main opposition party says 'you cannot'. Whatever you do, we will do it. Hopefully we are doing the bidding in the coming weeks and we are starting the Canal Istanbul.

The Canal Istanbul, which is also known as the crazy project, has been on the government’s agenda since 2011, but its realization has been delayed several times on the ground of financial problems as well as environmental concerns.

Turkish Government is aiming at opening an artificial seaway between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea with this project.
