Several Palestinians injured in renewed clashes with police in Jerusalem
At least 20 Palestinian citizens suffered injuries on Friday evening during renewed clashes in different areas of Jerusalem and its Old City.
According to local sources, police forces intensively used rubber bullets and fired volleys of tear gas and stun grenades during the events, which happened mainly in Silwan town, the Old City streets and Qalandia.
The Red Crescent said that its ambulance crews provided on-site medical assistance for about 20 Palestinians and transferred four of them to hospitals.
Meanwhile, skirmishes took place between police forces and Jerusalemite youths at the Qalandia refugee camp crossing in the northeast of Jerusalem.
The events started at the crossing when soldiers attacked a Palestinian march staged in support of Jerusalem.
A new round of clashes also happened on Friday evening between Palestinian youths and police forces in the Old City and its vicinity.
Two young men were reportedly subdued and detained by police officers in Bab al-Amud area, and ar-Rashid street in the Old City of Jerusalem.
In a related incident, dozens of extremist Jewish settlers attacked anew Palestinian citizens and their property in Bab al-Jadeed (the New Gate) area that leads to the Christian Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Video footage showed a horde of settlers chanting racist slurs and slogans against Arabs and throwing stones and bottles at Palestinian vehicles.
Settlers also attacked Palestinian citizens and property in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, but dozens of local youths confronted them and warded them off.
However, eyewitnesses said that the settlers physically assaulted some local young men and photojournalists in Sheikh Jarrah before police forces showed up and secured their withdrawal from the area.
