Istanbul fire department announced fire statistics for the period 2014-2018. According to this, most fires were caused by non-extinguished cigarettes.

According to the statistics collected by the Istanbul fire department, considering the average of the five-year period of 2014-28, approximately 30.5 percent of fires were caused by the cigarette, 18.9 percent by electric contact, and 6.2 percent by deliberate fires.

In 2018, in the first three places, it was observed that 35.0 percent was cigarettes, 26.7 percent was electrical contact, and 7.3 percent was intentional.

The ratio of pre-2013 smoke-induced fires was 49-50 percent to total fires, while it was observed that the number of smoke-induced fires decreased to 39-40 percent after 2013.
