The government dissolved in Sudan and state of emergency was declared
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir dissolved the government while declared a state of emergency for one year.
Omar al-Bashir, who has ruled Sudan for 30 years, announced the dissolving of central and regional governments. In his speech published on television, Al-Bashir declared a year-long state of emergency across the country.
In the address, Al-Bashir asked parliament to postpone constitutional amendments that would allow him to run for another term.
Al-Bashir also said the demonstrations were an attempt to destabilize the country.
"I announce imposing a state of emergency across the country for one year. I announce dissolving the government at the federal level and at the provincial levels," he said.
The Sudanese President canceled the constitutional amendments that would open the way for him to be a candidate in 2020. He called for dialogue with all political parties, armed groups, and youth.
El Bashir's decisions followed the popular protests since 19 December in the country.
Increasing prices, cash shortage in the market and Al-Bashir's decision to change the constitution to be re-elected for another term became the cause of public protests.
