Trump signs defense spending which includes sanctions against Turkey
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes sanctions on Turkey for purchase of the Russian weapon system.
The 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will increase the US' defense spending by about $20 billion, or about 2.8 per cent, also includes controversial provisions calling for sanctions against Russia and Turkey.
The United States had removed Turkey from the F-35 program when Turkey accepted delivery for Russian-made S-400 air defense systems in July.
On the other hand, the Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement on Tuesday condemned the bill, saying U.S. Members of Congress are damaging their own reputations and credibility by allowing themselves to be used by their anti-Turkish colleagues’ drive to hollow out the notion of 'Alliance'.
