Turkish Army sends soldier and howitzer to Qatar

Turkish Army sent additional troops and howitzers to be deployed in Turkish military base in Qatar in the scope of cooperation in defense and military fields signed with Qatar on June 15, 2015.

Following the crisis between Qatar and other Arab countries in the Gulf of Basra, the Turkish Army elements continue their shipment to Qatar.

A group of Turkish soldiers on Tuesday reached the Al Udeid Air Base in southern Doha.

In the written statement made by the Ministry of Defense of Qatar, that the soldiers will join another group which previously arrived at Tariq bin Ziyad military base and join the exercises to increase joint military operation power with Qatar troops.

The military and defense agreement that enabled the permanent deployment of Turkish Army elements in Qatar entered into force on June 15, 2015.

The first Turkish Army unit arrives in Qatar on June 19, it is expected that the number of soldiers sent to Qatar under the agreement will reach 5 thousand.

During the Gulf crisis, Qatar embargoed countries Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Bahrain, had sent a list to Qatar demanded the closure of the Turkish military base in Qatar.
