Turkish soldiers killed in an attack on Syria border
Two Turkish soldiers were killed in a mortar attack on a border post in the country’s border town of Akcakale in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, the country's National Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The attack targeted a base across from the Syrian town of Tel Abyad, which Turkey and Syrian National Army seized in a military operation against PKK/ YPG members last month, the ministry said. The ministry said that the Turkish artillery units retaliated fire immediately after the attack and that operations were ongoing in the region.
Turkey along with Syrian National Army on Oct. 3 launched a cross-border operation to remove YPG/PKK members from the area east of the Euphrates river in northern Syria to secure Turkey's borders.
