Turkish Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs in New Zealand
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu arrived in Christchurch, where a terrorist attack on two mosques took place.
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu arrived in Christchurch on Saturday.
Stating that they are in Christchurch, New Zealand to support those Muslims who have been targeted by a terrorist attack, Vice President Oktay said they were informed in a meeting held with New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters.
"In Christchurch to support our brothers & sisters targeted by this heinous terrorist attack, and to show our solidarity with the people of New Zealand. We must fight against Islamophobia altogether," Çavuşoğlu said.
Çavuşoğlu added that they have conveyed the Turkish nation’s condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand. We have "Stated that as a country having fought for so long against terrorism, Turkiye is ready to give all its support to New Zealand."
Coming together with the Muslim community in Christchurch, Çavuşoğlu said: "We have had an emotional gathering with the imam of Masjid Al Noor who survived the attack and Muslim brothers and sisters in Christchurch. We have shared their pain, conveyed our condolences and wished patience. As a nation, we are ready to give every support during these difficult times."
