Urgent Syrian meeting at UN Security Council
The UN Security Council is gathering urgently to discuss the disobeying ceasefire in Syria.
The UN Security Council is meeting urgently in New York on the request of Britain and France on Wednesday to address the latest developments in Syria and the 30-day cease-fire decision.
After the ratification of Russia in the UNSC session held on February 24, a 30-days ceasefire decision was taken across Syria. In the Security Council's decision, it was aimed at delivering aid to the region where the ceasefire and conflicts continued, as well as the evacuation of wounded and sick people trapped in conflict.
The UN Security Council's ceasefire was not observed in many regions of Syria, mainly Eastern Ghouta. The first aid convoy entered on March 5 to the region under the siege of the Syrian regime, but aid distribution was cut short due to air strikes. Human rights groups said 68 civilians were killed during the attack.
According to the UK-based Human Rights Observer, 800 civilians have been killed in Eastern Ghouta since February 18. At least 177 children are among of those who lost their lives.
While the Baathist regime has controlled a total of 40 percent of the region with the help of pro-regime militias captured rural area, more than 400,000 civilians have problems accessing foodstuffs and medical supplies living in the siege of East Ghouta since 2013.
