Victims of religious convicts must be addressed urgently

Speaking on behalf of Families Initiative of People Victimized by Feb. 28 and FETO Judiciary, Mirhan Özbekli said the victimization of religious prisoners in Turkiye must be addressed urgently.

To eliminate the victimization of religious prisoners detained in Turkiye, a concrete step must be taken urgently said Mirhan Özbekli, General Coordinator of Families Initiative of Prisoners Victimized by Feb. 28 and FETO judiciary.

Özbekli expressed that the present government can solve the issue by declaring intention.

Speaking to ILKHA, Özbekli underlined that the victims and their families face serious problems. Özbekli also emphasized the importance of penalty abatement and initiating the release process.

Özbekli, who reminded unsolved murder cases during the Feb. 28 period were forcibly put in the files of religious people, said the government also needs to apologize to victims and their families after the release process.

Remarking that speaking on the victimization of religious prisoners is a serious matter, Özbekli said, "No one has stood by those people, nor made an explanation related to those people so far."

"Why do we care about this issue?" asked Özbekli and said, "They are particular files of the period of February 28 and Fetulla Gulen group, which decisions came out with fake pieces of evidence, with tortures and with buying judges."

"They didn’t fulfill their word to solve the problem"

Stating that they work in the body of Yusufi Association formerly for the elimination of experienced grievances, Özbekli stressed that the given words to solve the problem has not been fulfilled.

"We have initiated a campaign before in order to eliminate of these grievances as Yusufi Association. Some of the media at that time also supported us. And our work came to a stage, Ankara said, "Be patient, we will solve this problem." They promised. But when we stopped our work, they returned to the old spot."

"We are determined to do whatever it takes in peaceful ways"

Özbekli finally said:

"We see that our clients and our brothers are experiencing serious grievances in prisons. We see that their families are also experiencing serious grievances. We are determined to do what is necessary by peaceful means to resolve these grievances. We are committed to this. With the permission of Allah, we try to reach a conclusion by using all the means. We expect support from the public, the media, the writers and especially the victim families.
