UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the worst humanitarian crisis in the world was happening in Yemen, where at least 10 thousand people lost their lives because of the civil war and asked the pledges for Yemenis to be fulfilled.

Speaking at the pledging event in the Swiss city of Geneva on Tuesday, the UN Secretary-General announced that "more than $2 billion" has been pledged in aid for the war-torn country by pointing out that Yemen is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.

Guterres said he saw “positive perspectives” for preparing a plan of action “to lead to an effective inter-Yemeni dialogue able to achieve a political solution, with of course the involvement of all those that are relevant in this conflict”.

"Humanitarian resources are very important, but they are not enough. We need unrestricted access everywhere inside Yemen and we need all the parties to the conflict to respect the international humanitarian law, and to protect civilians," he added. (ILKHA)
