A 7.0 magnitude earthquake hits Papua New Guinea
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck east-southeast of Wau in Papua New Guinea at12.50pm local time on Monday, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The epicenter of the quake was about 11 miles (18 kilometers) from land at a depth of 52 miles (85 kilometers) in the Pacific Ocean.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially issued a tsunami warning after the quake. However, it announced about an hour later that the tsunami danger had passed.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake.
