A huge fire breaks out at port in Beirut, Lebanon
A huge fire has broken out at the port of Beirut just over a month after a huge blast which killed nearly 200 people.
According to Lebanese officials, the fire started in a store of oil and tires, but the reason is unknown.
The fire caused concern among residents who are still dealing with the impacts of the ammonium nitrate-caused explosion a month ago.
A main road, which passes by the port, has been closed and traffic directed to surrounding areas, the local reports said.
On 4 August 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the port exploded, causing at least 190 deaths, 6,500 injuries, US$10–15 billion in property damage, and leaving an estimated 300,000 people homeless.
