Death toll from Indonesia floods, landslides rises to 55
At least 55 people were killed and more than 40 went missing when flash floods and landslides struck East Nusa Tenggara province in central Indonesia.
Landslides struck nearly 350 houses in the villages on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara province, said Raditya Jati, a spokesman for disaster management agency BNPB.
“Dozens of houses were buried in mud in Lamanele village... residents' houses were washed away by the flood. Severe flooding also has been reported in Bima, a town in the neighboring province of West Nusa Tenggara, forcing nearly 10,000 people to flee,” Raditya said.
Hundreds of people have been unaccounted for in the landslides that hit the Nele Lamadike village area in East Nusa Tenggara, local sources said.
