Erdoğan lifts Turkey's weekend curfew for 15 cities

On his Twitter account, Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced Friday that he decided to lift the country’s weekend curfew for big cities.

“As is known, during the pandemic, we took numerous measures to protect our nation from coronavirus pandemic. One of these measures was the curfew that we imposed on all over Turkey or in certain provinces. In fact, we would not impose a curfew this week but daily number of coronavirus cases that once dropped around 700, surged to 1,000 again and we had to put it back on our agenda,” Erdoğan said

Erdoğan noted that calls from public made him to review the decision, adding that it is clear that this curfew decision would lead to different social and economic consequences.

The president also called on the public to adhere to rules to combat pandemic, wearing masks, keeping social distance and caring about hygiene.

As of June 4, the total number of confirmed total cases in the country is over 167,410 of which 131,778 have recovered and 4,630 have died.
