Italy’s death toll from coronavirus reaches 26,977

The death toll is rising in Italy, which has the highest number deaths due to coronavirus in Europe, while the country is struggling to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Health Ministry, 333 people who tested positive for coronavirus have lost their lives in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 26,977.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases have so far been 199,144 in the country. 1,956 patients are being treated in intensive care unit.

Until now, 66,624 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

237,317 tests have been conducted for coronavirus in the country.

As of March 19, Italy became the country with the highest number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the world, but on 11 April it was overtaken by the United States.

The country has now the third-highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world after Spain and the US.
