Spain reports 268 new fatalities from coronavirus
Spain has reported a further 268 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 24,543.
The number of confirmed cases has been 236,899, an increase of 4,771 cases in the past 24 hours, according to the country’s Health Ministry.
While 7,764 patients are being treated in intensive care units, about 132,929 patients suffering from coronavirus have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
Spain has the second-highest coronavirus cases after the U.S. and the third-highest number of deaths after the U.S. and Italy.
The actual number of cases, however, is likely to be much higher, as many people with only mild or no symptoms are unlikely to have been tested. The number of deceased is also believed to be an underestimate due to lack of testing and reporting in the country.
