Tunisian Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh submits his resignation
Tunisia’s Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh submitted his resignation to President Kais Saied on Wednesday, the local sources said.
President Saied asked Fakhfakh to resign earlier on Wednesday after a meeting with him at the Carthage Palace.
Fakhfakh is under investigation over allegations of conflict of interest after an independent member of parliament published documents last month, indicating that he owns shares in companies which had won deals worth $15m from the state.
Elyes Fakhfakh served as the Minister of Tourism and, starting on 19 of December 2012, as the Minister of Finances as well, under Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali.
He has been serving as Prime Minister of Tunisia since 28 February 2020.
