Turkey welcomes U.S. decision to rescind Sudan from terrorism list

Turkey's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hami Aksoy has issued a statement regarding the U.S. decision to rescind the Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

“We consider the U.S. decision to rescind the Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, which we have been desiring for a long time, as a step in the right direction. Indeed, Turkey is against unilateral sanctions, as it has been stressing from the outset,” Aksoy said.

“Our country will continue to support the transition process in the Sudan, the reform efforts carried out within this scope, and to stand by the brotherly Sudanese people,” Aksoy added.

The U.S. President Donald Trump announced on October 19 that he would lift the designation of Sudan as a state sponsor of terrorism once $335 million in compensation from Sudan to American families victims of terrorism was deposited into an escrow account.

President Donald Trump officially notified the Congress of his intention to remove Sudan from the State Department's blacklist of state sponsors of terrorism.

On December 14, the United States officially removed Sudan from the list after it agreed to establish relations with the zionist occupation regime.
